How your data flows through Suwali

How does Suwali ingest data from my organization?

Organizations that use Suwali have information typically comprising hundreds or thousands of articles, blog posts, or datasets. When you sign up, you'll establish a connection so that Suwali can ingest your organization's archive. This critical first step allows Suwali to process that data and respond to audience questions with answers drawn directly from articles or posts that your organization has published.

How does Suwali turn my organization's data into "natural language"?

Instead of using a search or query function to sort information, Suwali allows audiences to ask questions and share information with a chatbot, in a conversational fashion. The Suwali chatbot responds to audience questions using what we call "natural language." In order to turn your organization's data into easy-to-understand natural language responses, we rely on a set of large language models hosted on our infrastructure. Your organization's needs will determine which of those models we use for your hub.

What does Suwali do with my organization's data?

Suwali's software breaks down each article into small chunks of information, almost like cutting it into paragraphs or even single sentences. These chunks of information are stored in your organization's hub database, hosted on our infrastructure.

When a reader asks a question, it prompts Suwali's system to search the hub database for answers. If the system finds information that satisfies the reader's question, it will respond with an answer.

Does Suwali rely on a foundational Large Language Model (LLM)?

Yes, we rely on a set of large language models (LLMs) hosted on our infrastructure. When Suwali finds information that can answer a reader's question, it transmits that information to the LLM, which turns it into a natural language response. The LLM does not do anything with your organization's data except use it to formulate natural language responses when it receives a request from Suwali. The LLM does not keep any data it receives from Suwali, nor does it use that data for further training or development.

Importantly, under Meedan's implementation, the LLM does not draw additional data from the open web to formulate natural language responses. This significantly reduces the risk that the model will provide inaccurate, biased, or hallucinatory responses.

Your organization can decide which LLM to use based on your communities' needs. Contact our team at support@suwali.io to discuss your options.

Will my organization's data be available to other Suwali users?

No. Suwali hubs are independent of one another and we place strict barriers between content-level data so that there can be no "cross-contamination" between Suwali hubs. All answers to your audience's questions will be drawn from your data only, and all user activity for your hub will only be visible to those who have access to your hub.

What data we collect and how we process it

Apart from my archive, what other kinds of data does Suwali collect?

When you sign up for our services, you may provide us with identifying information including your organization's name, mailing address, email, and other details necessary for providing the services and collecting payment.

Suwali also collects some technical data in order to provide the services. This includes things like IP addresses, browser type and settings, timestamps, operating system data and device information. See our Privacy Policy for a complete list.

Where does Suwali host my organization's data?

All data collected by Suwali is hosted in Ireland.

Does Suwali use third-party services to process data?

Yes. We use certain third-party service providers (data subprocessors) to help us deliver Suwali's services. See a full list of our current data subprocessors.

Suwali functions on top of WhatsApp and Telegram. How will these companies handle my data when I'm using Suwali?

Data sent between you and your audience (over either WhatsApp or Telegram) is subject to those services' data privacy and terms of service agreements. When using Suwali, you agree to be bound by these additional third-party terms.

How we protect your data

Will Meedan disclose my data to third parties?

We do not sell organizational data or personal information in any circumstances. We do not share organizational data or personal information with advertisers. But there may be other instances when we disclose your data. These include:

  • When you give us permission to share it.
  • When we use third-party service providers to deliver our services, such as those we use for hosting, content delivery, security, analytics, cloud storage, and data processing.
  • When we have a legal obligation to disclose information.
  • When we believe it is necessary to prevent harm.

We occasionally seek research and revenue sharing opportunities with our clients, but we will only do this with your explicit consent and input on the terms of such agreements, including pricing and acceptable uses of the data. Please see our Privacy Policy for further details.

How will my data be protected?

We implement robust technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. These measures include encryption of data in transit using HTTPS, encryption of certain data at rest, and the use of secure authentication mechanisms.

We periodically conduct security assessments and monitoring, including third-party penetration testing, to help identify and address potential vulnerabilities. Certain system and log data may be retained for operational and security purposes and protected in accordance with relevant data privacy regulations.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting personal information, we will take appropriate steps to investigate the incident and will notify affected users.

What if my account gets hacked?

If you have reason to believe that your account has been hacked or compromised by a malicious actor, please contact Meedan at support@suwali.io.

Will the LLM use my organization's data to develop or improve its capabilities?

In order to turn your organization's data into easy-to-understand natural language responses, we rely on LLMs. See "Does Suwali rely on a foundational Large Language Model?" for more details on how we use LLMs to help deliver our service to our users.

Our system is intentionally built so that we use LLMs for their power to produce natural language responses, and nothing more than that. This approach allows our partners to retain control over their data and ensure that their readers' rights to information and data privacy are respected to the fullest extent possible.

Your rights and how to exercise them

We provide the following privacy rights to anyone whose personal information we have collected:

  • the right to access the personal information we collect about you;
  • the right to know how we disclose the information we collect about you;
  • the right to delete the personal information we have collected about you;
  • the right to correct inaccurate information about you;
  • the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for the exercise of your rights;
  • the right to data portability;
  • the right to object to certain processing of your information, including direct marketing;
  • the right to restrict the processing of your personal data; and
  • the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

How do I invoke these rights?

You can review and change your personal information by logging into Suwali and visiting your account profile page. For privacy requests, please email us at privacy@meedan.com.

What happens to my data if I stop using Suwali and delete my hub?

When a hub is deleted, all the data in that hub is deleted. When a user deletes their individual account we permanently delete personally identifiable information about the user. We retain data that the user created in the hub.
